Pacific Pines State Park

visited 6 August 2023

Midway along the Long Beach Peninsula, Pacific Pines State Park offers access to the long, sandy beaches that typify southwest Washington’s coast.

This is a simple and small (10 acre) park. From the parking lot, there’s a short trail through a forest. The woods give way after a couple minutes to sand dunes and then the beach.

We visited on a blustery day and found a few other beach explorers and one intrepid fisherman in his hip-waders.

A narrow sandy trail cuts through green and golden dune grass toward a wide, flat beach under a hazy gray overcast sky, where a few small figures walk near gentle surf along the ocean’s edge.

A dew-covered spiderweb strung across a mound of bright green moss on a forest floor, its silk beaded with tiny water droplets. Fallen pine needles, twigs, and a weathered piece of wood surround the web, with a small green fern frond visible at the right.
