Lake Sammamish State Park

visited 15 May 2022

Lake Sammamish is a popular urban getaway, featuring beaches and hiking trails in the heart of the eastern suburbs.

The beaches look large enough to handle large crowds of sun-worshippers, but on the blustery spring day I visited, the only beachgoers were geese.

I found a hiking trail out to the end of Issaquah Creek and found a few intrepid dog-walkers; otherwise, the park was very quiet.

A wet, muddy dirt trail winds through a lush green forest under an overcast gray sky, lined with wooden split-rail fences and dense foliage, with tall leafy trees and a glimpse of a lake in the distance to the left.

Here is the view from the point at the end of the trail, looking across the lake and then back to the swimming beach:

A wide panoramic view across the calm gray water of Lake Sammamish under an overcast sky, with green trees and shrubs lining the shore in the foreground and low forested hills in the distance.
A calm lake dotted with rain ripples under a heavy overcast sky, with a line of white swim-area buoys stretching across the water. Beyond the far shoreline stand dense green trees, a large deciduous tree on a point, and low forested hills partly wrapped in mist and cloud.
A weathered tree stump and exposed roots blanketed in vibrant green moss, surrounded by leafy green undergrowth and small plants on a forest floor of dark soil and scattered twigs.

I then followed the trail back inland for a bit. Aside from a bit of traffic noise, one could imagine being in a much more rural environment and not in the heart of the city.

A calm green creek winds between densely wooded banks lined with lush spring foliage, tall deciduous trees and evergreens under an overcast pale sky at Lake Sammamish State Park.
A gravel path with rain puddles curves along the edge of a lush green wetland meadow at Lake Sammamish State Park, with tall grasses, dense trees along the far tree line, and overhanging leafy branches under an overcast gray sky.
A green meadow scattered with yellow buttercups spreads under an overcast gray sky, with a lone leafy tree on the left and a dense line of trees and a white flowering shrub along the far treeline.
A muddy, puddle-strewn dirt trail winds through a lush green meadow of tall grasses, bordered by dense shrubs and trees under a heavy overcast gray sky.
